Schnitkey: ARC-CO still a good option for corn and soybeans

A farm management specialist with University of Illinois Extension says the Ag Risk Coverage – County program for corn and soybean continues to be a good option for producers in 2024.

Gary Schnitkey tells Brownfield benchmark prices for ARC are increasing.

“That will offer higher protection against both price and yield declines.”

And when compared to the updates coming to the Price Loss Coverage program…

“ARC-CO will trigger payments before PLC for the same yields.”

He says PLC might be a good option in 2024 for producers with a more diverse crop mix.

Farm programs have been extended another year, because of the recent farm bill extension.
