Senate Ag Committee will probe into USDA research

This week the Senate Ag Committee will be taking a deeper look into USDA research including the relocation of the Economic Research Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture to Kansas City, Missouri.

Monday employees at the D.C. offices had to notify USDA if they were willing to make the move which a large majority are expected to leave the agency rather than relocate.

The hearing Thursday will also give lawmakers a chance to press USDA about climate change research transparency. Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow of Michigan recently told Brownfield its deeply irresponsible for the agency to withhold research from producers and is asking for an explanation on the USDA’s actions.

House Ag subcommittees will also hold hearings on the livestock and poultry economies as well as the National Organic Program.

This week the House will also debate raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15.
