Senator disappointed with RFS rule

The EPA has released its final rule for 2020 biofuel levels under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown says the rule falls short of providing farmers and the biofuels industry with much needed certainty.

“These RFS standards are not nearly what they should be,” he says. “We shouldn’t be helping oil companies; we should be helping farmers.”

He says the Trump Administration needs to address the small refinery exemption waivers and stand up for farmers…”Not just talk a good game but stand up and really insist on more purchases of biofuels and insist that we don’t relax these standards that we build up and farmers have asked for,” he says. “When you back track like this it makes it difficult for farmers to plan.”

The administration has committed to reaching 15 billion gallons of ethanol-blended fuel next year. Many ag groups and leaders have said they will push the EPA to uphold that commitment.
