Slight decline in Missouri corn crop

The maturity of Missouri’s corn crop is a month behind last year at this time and 11 days behind normal. Fifty-seven percent of the crop is mature and as of Sunday 16 percent was harvested. Corn moisture averages nearly 21 percent, whereas, last year it was just over 15 percent.

Sixty-eight percent of the state’s corn crop is in fair to good shape (two points ahead of last week) while 27 percent is poor to very poor (a seven point increase from last week). Five-percent is in excellent condition.

As for soybeans, they’re not as far behind as corn. Four percent of the state’s soybean crop is mature, five days behind normal. Fifty-four percent as of Sunday had turned color (a big jump from last week) and 21 percent had dropped leaves. Sixty-three percent of the crop is in fair to good condition…33 percent was poor to very poor and four percent excellent.

Winter wheat planting is one percent complete – a week behind normal.
