Slow start to 2018/19 for soybean, sorghum inspections

The USDA reports corn, sorghum, and soybean export inspections have started the 2018/19 marketing year on neutral to bearish notes.

For the week ending September 6th, wheat came out at 429,081 tons, up 19,849 from the week ending August 30th, but down 79,774 from the week ending September 7th, 2017. Just over a quarter into the 2018/19 marketing year, wheat inspections are 5,681,601 tons, compared to 8,258,905 in 2017/18.

Corn was reported at 763,475 tons, 571,736 lower than the previous week, but 85,536 higher than this time last year. At the official outset of the 2018/19 marketing year, corn inspections are 658,501 tons, compared to 677,939 in 2017/18.

Soybeans were pegged at 924,839 tons, 148,978 more than the week before, but 182,262 less than a year ago. Early in the marketing year, soybean inspections are 832,152 tons, compared to 1,107,101 last year.

Sorghum totaled 1,774 tons, an increase of 527 on the week, but a decrease of 49,632 on the year. 2018/19 sorghum inspections are 1,510 tons, compared to 51,406 in 2017/18.
