Slower week for corn export inspections

The USDA says corn export inspections slowed down during the week of January 3rd but remain ahead of the anticipated pace for the 2018/19 marketing year. The current marketing year runs through the end of May for wheat and through the end of August for corn, sorghum, and soybeans.

Wheat came out at 260,134 tons, down 120,018 from the week ending December 27th, 2018, but up 24,918 from the week ending January 4th, 2018. At this point in the 2018/19 marketing year, wheat inspections are 12,936,185 tons, compared to 14,787,052 in 2017/18.

Corn was reported at 501,541 tons, 451,340 lower than the previous week and 349,227 less than this time last year. For the marketing year to date, corn inspections are 18,455,159 tons, compared to 11,439,129 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 673,172 tons, a decline of 82,981 on the week and 541,410 on the year. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 17,299,307 tons, compared to 29,608,752 last year.

Sorghum inspections totaled 30,989 tons, an increase of 3,963 from the prior week and a jump of 29,366 from a year ago. 2018/19 sorghum inspections are 486,178 tons, compared to 1,647,410 in 2017/18.
