Some flooding on the Mississippi

The warm weather and heavy thunderstorms which rolled through Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin last weekend could push the Mississippi River to 19 to 21 feet by next week. A number of rivers feeding into the Mississippi are flooding now. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the river on Monday evening. The Mississippi hit the second crest of the spring at 18.71 feet in St Paul early Tuesday morning; major flood stage is 17 feet in the city. The river is expected to hold steady today then recede on Wednesday.

La Crosse is already reporting water above flood stage at 13 feet and it is expected to peak at 14.5 by midweek.

Some river-side streets are being closed in Moline and Davenport.

The river at lock and dam 15 (Rock Island, IL) was at 16.62 on Tuesday morning, National Weather Service says it should hit major flood stage of 18 feet by Sunday increasing to 18.5 by Monday.
