Soybean leader pushes for RINs to be left alone

Missouri Soybean Association President Brooks Hurst says the state organization is urging President Trump to not change the structure of Renewable Identification Numbers.

“Capping the price will undermine the integrity of the RFS, lowering market prices for soybeans and raising feed costs for livestock producers,” Hurst told Brownfield Ag News Tuesday.

Analysis from the National Biodiesel Board shows that if caps are placed on RINs, up to 300 million gallons in biomass-based diesel volumes would be lost each year.

“Limiting renewable fuels with RINs caps is directly contrary to the commitments President Trump made to the American famers and rural communities that elected him,” said Hurst.

Missouri is the country’s second largest biodiesel producer, generating about 200 million gallons each year. Hurst farms in northwestern Missouri’s Atchison County.
