Still time to comment on RFS

Ethanol Producer

Proposed changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard by EPA fell short of expectations.

“We’re very disappointed with the outcome and EPA volume requirements.”

Jim Zook, Executive Director of Michigan Corn, says the EPA has reduced the ethanol requirements under the premise of inadequate domestic supplies.  However, Zook says the intent of the RFS is to have more companies install higher blend-level ethanol pumps.

He tells Brownfield this decision will hinder new demand for corn and inhibit any investment into new cellulosic ethanol or new generation ethanol plants.  “The potential is quite great out there, if we would be allowed to actually take it to its full potential.”

Zook encourages farmers and consumers alike to submit their comments on the RFS decision by July 27th.
