Stine Seed sees big future for short corn

The president of a seed company suggests shorter might be better when it comes to the future of corn production.

Myron Stine of Iowa-based Stine Seed Company says short stature corn offers several advantages.

“Products that stand better in wind events (and) things of that nature, products that allow you to use ground equipment to do applications throughout the season. They make that easier.”

He tells Brownfield Stine sees great yield potential in higher plant densities with short-stature corn.

“We think higher-density corn is without a doubt the future of corn production.”

Stine says the company will continue to push populations and prioritize standability as it develops corn seed technology.
