Strong start to planting season in Wisconsin

Dry weather early in the week allowed Wisconsin farmers to make considerable planting progress.

USDA’s latest crop update says corn planting is 10 percent complete, six days ahead of last year and two days ahead of the five-year average.

Soybeans are 11 percent completed, compared to two percent a year ago and three percent normally.

Oat planting is 40 percent done, while potatoes are 75 percent planted.

Pasture and range conditions improved nine percentage points on the week to 46 percent good to excellent.
