Supply and demand numbers could provide insight on the direction of feed costs

An ag economist says livestock producers should take note of this week’s supply and demand report from the UDSA to see where input prices could head.

University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says he’s watching adjustments to corn and soybean yields. “Does the USDA make big adjustments to those,” he asks. “I don’t want to be in their shoes, still trying to figure out what yields are like. Anecdotally, I think you can find numbers all over the board and just the sheer variability in small geographic regions just reminds me how tough it is this year.”

The USDA’s supply and demand report comes out Thursday, October 12 at 12 Eastern/11 Central.
