Tai says Biden admin prioritizing emerging trade markets

The U.S. Trade Representative says the country needs to diversify its trading patterns.

Ambassador Katherine Tai tells Brownfield the U.S. can’t become too dependent on larger markets like China. “Over the course of these last five to seven years, we’ve become very conscious of the fact that we have become very reliant on China as an export market. This is something that we share with some of our other trading partners who are also agricultural producing powerhouses. And it’s something that we are looking to address.”

She says the administration is prioritizing emerging markets. “That does not mean walking away from China, but it does mean making sure that we have a healthier diet, if you will, when it comes to the things that we trade and who we trade with.”

Ambassador Tai says the current relationship with China is complicated but remains important.
