Take notes as you scout fields ahead of harvest

A team leader with Beck’s says now is the time farmers should be scouting fields and make notes for next year’s crop.

David Roome says the field evaluation doesn’t need to take long.

“They can evaluate some of the root structure and standability on some of those grounds.”

Roome says farmers can use that information to make their hybrid selections for 2024. And he says with a larger corn-on-corn rotation expected in northwest Illinois, hybrid selection will be especially important.

“It’s important to evaluate which fields you’re going on and avoid doubling up on certain disease packages within those hybrids moving forward.”

He tells Brownfield harvest is about two weeks away in northern Illinois. Hear the interview.
