The USDA increases incentives for continuous CRP practices

The USDA is increasing incentive payments for practices installed on Continuous Conservation Reserve Program acres. The USDA’s Farm Service Agency is raising incentive payments for installing practices from 5 percent to 20 percent. Producers also get a 10 percent added payment for water quality practices on continuous CRP land.

“We offer a number of CRP initiatives, including continuous CRP, which greatly benefits natural resources like water,” said FSA Administrator Richard Fordyce, quoted in an agency news release. “Increasing the incentive payment gives farmers even more reason to participate in continuous CRP, one of our nation’s largest conservation endeavors.”

Continuous CRP focuses specifically on environmentally sensitive land and there is no bidding process like there is for general CRP. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis for qualified landowners, if the number of allowable acres is not exceeded.
