Things progressing nicely in Wisconsin fields

Near perfect weather allowed a lot of progress in Wisconsin fields last week. The weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service says 63 percent of the state’s corn silage was chopped as of Sunday. That is 1 day ahead of the five-year average but 14 days ahead of last year. 44 percent of the Badger State corn crop has reached maturity, 3 days behind the five-year average. The crop is rated 79 percent good to excellent condition.

The soybean crop is rated 81 percent good to excellent condition with 69 percent dropping leaves, 2 days ahead of average.

Potatoes are 77 percent harvested and 11 percent of the fall tillage is done.

Topsoil moisture is listed as 77 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus. Still 27 percent surplus in the Southwest district.
