Tough spring for applicators

Wet fields frustrated custom applicators this spring.

Jason Leary with Crystal Valley Coop in south-central Minnesota says the last three months have been extremely challenging.

“Basically it was just slow (because of) wet fields. And when we did have time, it’s hard to stay in front of these growers spreading fertilizer.”

He tells Brownfield several customers requested applications before conditions were fit.

“We had a couple days where we were getting machines stuck quite often.”

The coop also sells seed.  Leary says many farmers swapped out full season corn for shorter season maturities, so trying to keep up on inventory has been a struggle.
