Trump in no hurry to finish NAFTA

President Trump says he won’t rush into a new NAFTA agreement.  Trump told Fox News the U.S. can get a better deal by waiting until after the midterm elections this fall.  Agriculture groups would like a deal sooner with tariffs cut.

The President told Fox during a Sunday interview he is focused on trade and says, “Every country is calling every day saying, ‘Let’s make a deal, let’s make a deal.’ It’s going to all work out.”

Canada and Mexico would like to move faster on a trade deal.  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office confirms Trudeau talked with new Mexican President Lopez Obrador about a “mutually beneficial economic and trading relationship between the two countries.”

While Trump is content to wait, tariffs assessed by all three NAFTA countries continue, and new retaliatory tariffs between China and the U.S. start Friday, putting more strain on America’s agriculture sector.
