USA Rice meets with Cuban officials

Farmer leaders with the USA Rice Federation say recent meetings with Cuban leaders are encouraging.

Arkansas farmer Mark Isbell says increased trade would benefit American growers and create more private industry opportunities for Cubans.  But he says a lot of work must be done to overcome the current trade embargo with the country.

Isbell and USA Rice staff recently met with the President of Cuba as part of a round table with private sector businesses during the United Nations General Assembly event in New York.

Cuba imported a small amount of U.S. rice in June following the U.S.-Cuba Ag Business Conference, the first shipment from the U.S. in several years.
