USDA announces details of ag assistance program
The USDA has announced details of the CoronaVirus Food Assistance Program, which will provide up to 16 billion dollars in direct payments to farmers and ranchers.
The biggest payments will go livestock, dairy and specialty crop growers. USDA did increase the payment limitation, up of 250-thousand dollars per person or entity for all commodities combined.
At a White House event with President Trump this morning, Florida cattleman Marty Smith, president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, thanked Trump and Congress for the assistance.
“America’s farmers and ranchers continue to work around the clock to feed the public, to feed all of our nation and a large part of the world,” Smith said. “What we’re doing with this program enables us to stay in business and continue to do that.”
Signup for the program will begin on May 26th. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has indicated that checks could start hitting the country in early June.
