USDA investing $33 million to improve education and research at land-grant universities

The USDA is investing $33 million toward 82 research, extension and education projects at the nation’s historically black 1890 land-grant universities.

The projects are part of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Capacity Building Grant Program that strive to improve curriculum, recruitment and retention, Extension program support, and research.

Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small says the work each university completes through these projects will have ripple effects beyond the walls of the classroom by providing solutions for a stronger food system and inspiring the next generation of scientists to meet future challenges in the industry.

All 19 of the eligible 1890 land-grant universities will receive funding. Click here to view the list of recipients and project descriptions.
