Variable crops continue in eastern MO

Harvest results vary across eastern Missouri.

In the northeast, Sam Sullivan with Central Elevator says there’s a clear difference in the crops that received rain and crops that didn’t.

“The areas that didn’t get the rain, soybeans are the size of BBs and corn depth is probably about half of what it is where the rain fell.”

He says both corn and soybeans have been coming to the elevator dry. In the southeast, farmer Mike Martin says irrigation saved the crop and yields have been good so far.

“We finished rice harvest a few days ago and went back to harvesting soybeans. Corn harvest is complete. We’re in the process of drying rice and quality will be determined soon.”

Martin says heavy August rains killed some soybeans, but yields range from 30 to 90 bushels/acre. He says the corn crop was above average for yield and there’s been no aflatoxin reported in the area.
