Warm weather allows South Dakota planting progress

There was some South Dakota planting progress because of warm, dry weather.  The past week began with rain and snow in some areas and ended with highs in the 80s and low 90s statewide. While planting progressed, topsoil moisture declined to 76 percent adequate to surplus.  Corn planting is 32 percent done, 11 percentage points behind normal.

Soybeans are 5 percent planted.  Normally, 10 percent of them would be planted by now.

Winter wheat 86 percent fair to good.  It’s just 1 percent excellent.

South Dakota pastures are 84 percent fair to good, and 4 percent excellent.
