Weather impacts winter wheat in Michigan

Michigan’s winter wheat crop is ending February in much worse shape than a year ago.

The USDA says 35% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, a drop of 39%, while 29% is in poor to very poor shape, an increase of 25%.

Temperatures fluctuated widely during the month, with multiple ice and snow storms, lowering the condition of winter wheat, leaving many fields under water or frozen at times.

Livestock is reportedly doing well despite the weather.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress reports resume April 1st.
