What about the weekly crop reports?

The weekly Crop Progress reports are just one casualty of the government “shutdown”.  And until Congress passes a continuing resolution or a budget to fund the government, those reports, along with others, will not be released.

So is the lack of a weekly Crop Report a big concern for farmers?

Nebraska farmer Zach Hunnicutt says, “The shutdown doesn’t affect Twitter.  We can get lots of information in other ways.  I think we trust what other people post more so than what we see out of the USDA.”

Ohio farmer Allen Ett says he like the opportunity to talk to farmers from around the Corn Belt directly to see how harvest is progressing.  “I put more trust in what we’re doing here (the Harvest Hangouts) than what some of the reports put out,” he says.  “It’s very frustrating when some of those reports come out, like Monday.  All of the sudden the 2012 crop grew and we have more carry out.  Really? I don’t think so.”
