Western Farm Show ‘Border War’ feeds hungry

Katie Gibson, former Missouri FFA State Officer

One may not guess by looking at her, but Katie Gibson is competitive. The former Missouri FFA State Officer was busy during the Western Farm Show collecting food to try and see that Missouri remained undefeated in the so-called Border War, a throwback term harkening to the skirmishes between Kansas and the Show Me State during the Civil War. The modern day skirmish, however, results in good things. Gibson, from Jefferson City, Missouri, explains that Kansas and Missouri FFA members have an annual friendly cross-border rivalry to see which states’ FFA members can solicit the most food during the Western Farm Show.
