Whole Milk for Healthy Kids becomes campaign issue in Pennsylvania

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids legislation that passed the House of Representatives last fall has become a campaign issue in a leading dairy production state.

The bill, led by Ag Committee Chairman Glenn GT Thompson passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, but a Pennsylvania Senate race has the challenger criticizing the incumbent for supporting the current guidelines that keep whole milk out of school lunch and breakfast programs.  Challenger Dave McCormick says incumbent Senator Bob Casey’s position is a slap in the face to the state’s five thousand dairy farmers and fails to give children the nutrition they need.

The U.S. Senate has not taken action on the Whole Milk bill yet.
