Wisconsin dairy export program funding awaits Governor’s signature

Legislation that would fund Wisconsin’s dairy export program is awaiting the Governor’s signature. 

Senate Bill 827 would allow the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to repurpose 880-thousand dollars in unused federal rural development funds to fully fund the state’s new Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports.  

The bill authored by Senator Joan Ballweg and Representative Tony Kurtz had bipartisan support and is expected to get Governor Tony Evers’ approval.

Rebekah Sweeney with the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association says, “Wisconsin dairy processors and farmers are ready to meet the growing international demand for their safe, nutritious and delicious dairy products, and grateful to have the support of the state as they connect with consumers in emerging global markets.”

The dollars will be used to promote Wisconsin milk, cheese, yogurt, and other products internationally through selected international trade shows, reverse buyers’ missions, resources for new exporters, and marketing campaigns.
