Wolf management legislation in danger because of shutdown

Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI 7th) speaking on the House floor in support of wolf management by the states

The lack of an appropriations bill from Congress has put state management of gray wolves in jeopardy.  A staff member for Congressman Sean Duffy of Wisconsin tells Brownfield that unless Duffy’s Manage Our Wolves language gets attached to an interior appropriations bill before the end of the year, the bill dies.  Duffy’s staff confirms he will re-introduce the bill early next year if that happens.

The gray wolf is currently on the Endangered Species List but has recovered beyond targeted goals.  Farmers and ranchers have been lobbying for changes to allow states like Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Wyoming to manage wolf populations.
