Year-round E15 approval continues to be a concern as shutdown continues

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says she is hopeful the government shutdown will be resolved soon and the EPA’s rulemaking process for year-round E15 will be finished in time for the summer driving season.

“Mr. Wheeler was asked about this last week at his confirmation hearing and what we continue to hear publicly and privately is this is a priority,” She says. “The President has made it clear that this is a priority and we will meet the deadline so we have to accept that they will.”

Prior to the shutdown, the EPA said it would release a rule in February. Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said it will get done on time if the shutdown ends in a reasonable time.

Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says the timeline for getting a rule across the finish line continues to be a concern.

“We’re very concerned about that timeline and about whether there are enough days left on the calendar to get that rule proposed, to put it out for public comment, to respond to those comments, and to put the final rule out- it’s a very involved and lengthy process,” he says.
