A wave of low pressure along the southern end of cold front extending northeastward into the eastern Great Lakes region will become the dominant system Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in heavy showers and locally severe thunderstorms across the South.  Five-day rainfall totals could reach 4 to 8 inches or more from the southeastern Plains into the mid-South, as well as portions of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.  Rainfall should total an inch or more throughout the South, East, and lower Midwest, except across southern Florida.  The threat of severe weather will peak during the first half of the week, starting in the south-central U.S. before shifting into the lower Mississippi Valley and parts of the Southeast.  Elsewhere, the West will experience mostly dry weather and a warming trend, with mid-week temperatures expected to surpass the 90-degree mark in the Desert Southwest.  Widespread warmth will also arrive on the Plains late in the week.
