Another missed opportunity for E15

Ethanol groups waiting for President Trump to make an announcement on E15 relief are disappointed another summer driving season has come and gone.

Mike O’Brien with Growth Energy says RVP restrictions that begin in June and end in September limit the market significantly.

“Every time you have a summer go by, it’s a missed opportunity.”

Despite regulations that he calls unnecessary, O’Brien tells Brownfield E15 pumps can be found at more than 1,600 locations nationwide with a target of over 3,000 in the next two to three years.

“So the trend-lines are all good and we’re seeing sales of E15 recover.  But it’s just the variability of a seasonal product that we’re dealing with right now.  So if we can get that out of the way we can get E15 on an even more aggressive adoption path.”

White House sources indicate President Trump plans to make an announcement on year-round E15 when he visits Iowa Tuesday.
