EPA expects final changes to diesel emissions rules this fall

Farmers are waiting for federal changes to Diesel Emission Fluid system regulations to take effect.

EPA Region 7 administrator Jim Macy says the public comment period on proposed rulemaking ended last month.

“Once that rule is finalized then absolutely you’ll be able to do all of this that was forecasted in the proposed regulatory reform work.”

EPA’s proposed rule involves selective catalytic reduction systems and diesel engines no longer having to progressively derate.

He tells Brownfield.

“What it doesn’t mean is that you can take those parts off and throw those away. We’re converting from allowing the DEF fluid to nitrous oxide injection, a different technology that could be used in place of DEF.”

A final rule is expected this fall.
