Hinson explains ‘no’ vote on ag spending bill

U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she voted against the ag spending bill late Thursday.

“Last night’s bill goes beyond red lining waste in my mind,” she said. “It undermines rural America. I will not compromise when it comes to investing in Iowa agriculture, and I will not allow this process to happen on the backs of our farmers.”

Speaking with reporters Friday morning, the Iowa Republican said the measure would have limited Congressional efforts to address foreign ag land ownership concerns. “It reduced funding for a provision that would improve the tracking of foreign purchases of agricultural land.”

Hinson said the ag spending bill would have also reduced funding for USDA’s ReConnect rural broadband program by nearly $40 million.
