Ohio farmers take advantage of dry days

Warmer conditions are pushing Ohio’s wheat crop ahead of last year and the five-year average.

The USDA says 83 percent of winter wheat is jointed and the condition improved a point to 69 percent good to excellent.

Ohio corn planting is now six percent complete while soybeans are at seven percent, both nearing the average pace.

Oats are 66 percent planted and 19 percent emerged.

Soil moisture in Ohio is improving with 26 percent of topsoils in surplus and 21 percent of subsoils.
