White House announcement good news for Ohio

The announcement this week by the Obama Administration instructing the federal government to buy more bio-based products is good news for Ohio, says Dennis Hall, assistant director of the Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center at Ohio State.

“Ohio is clearly in a leadership opportunity relative to bio-based products,” said Hall. “We are so due in part to the fact that we make a lot of petroleum based products and as those companies seek to innovate they are increasingly looking at bio-based materials as a source of feedstock to make new paints, new adhesives, new detergents, cleaners, etc.”

Hall says Ohio State has been involved in creating bio-products since 2005 and some of the Center’s support comes from the Ohio Soybean Council.

“The Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center does have a program in place, thanks in large part to the leadership of the Ohio Soybean Council to help companies accelerate products through and in to the Bio Preferred program,” Hall said. “If companies are interested in participating in this program, the Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center exists as a resource to help them.”
